The pride of Haydock win new fans in the Big Apple

HAYDOCK Male Voice Choir has been winning fans in the United States.

The choir has been invited to take part in the Distinguished Concerts International at New York (DCINY).

The choir was approached by the organisers in New York after seeing they saw the choir’s performance videos on YouTube.

As the illustrious concert requires an audition, the organisers happily accepted several CD recordings from the choir, and immediately invited it to take part in the event. Choir secretary Alan Gaskell said: “We’re so delighted that the people in New York have contacted us and recognised our choir.

“They understand that the trip will take intensive planning but we are hoping to make it over to New York in the 2013/14 season.”

DCINY takes place at the Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Centre of Performing Arts.

The concert joins together several choirs from across the globe to create one large, international choir to perform on the evening. Members of the Haydock choir recognise it will be a challenge to get a choir of 70 over to the states, however, they are saving up and will hopefully get there within the next two years.

Alan said: “The main problem is saving to get there within the next 12 months.

“The organisers haven’t given us a time frame as they understand the amount of planning which needs to be done, although they are very eager to get us over there.

“We’re extremely honoured that our choir has been noticed internationally and invited to take part in this prestigious event.”
