David is wild about photos in World of Glass exhibition

YOU might not find dragon fruit or kumquats on the menu at the Kaleidoscope Café at The World of Glass.

But thanks to assistant chef David Wild you could soon be seeing a very colourful photograph of them on the walls.

Away from the kitchen David is a keen photographer, and has a mini-exhibition of his own displayed on the wall leading into the café.

David’s taste for the hobby developed five years ago when he came to work at the visitor centre – his latest work even makes use of a chunk of glass from the glassblowers’ furnace.

“The photo was inspired by some Matisse paintings I’d seen,” he said.

“I went round finding lots of colourful exotic fruit which I placed on the glass to photograph. I then manipulated the image on the computer to create overlapping exposures in vibrant yellows and oranges.”

David considers that working in such a creative environment as The World of Glass has helped to stimulate his imagination.

He said: “I’m surrounded by creative people and all the art in the various galleries.”

David’s exhibition is at The World of Glass until September 15.
