Funky band goes nuts at the Zoo

IF you love the super sounds of Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding and Curtis Mayfield, get down to Zoo Bar on Friday and catch up with the sounds of Funky Nuts, a seven-piece funk/soul band.

They are one of the most popular outfits in Liverpool, with two weekly residencies at the popular Hannah’s Bar and Rubber Soul venues, plus a monthly spot at Zoo Bar in St Helens.

Roberto Mather’s soulful main vocal leads the band front line, flanked by two electric guitars.

‘Axe-men’ are Jack Gardiner and Harry Andrew Brown; Jack’s jazz-inspired, liquid fast solos and Harry’s bluesy lead lines and backing vocals adding decoration to a solid sound.

The funky rhythm section is held down on bass guitar by Graham McDonough and on drum kit by the shuffle-led James Higham. The sweet brass lines are blown by the inimitable duo Peter Higham and Alex Brown, bringing real class to the sound.

Their set, filled with the biggest and boldest of funk and soul hits from the past 40 years, and their super-high energy set keeps you on the dancefloor all night – no ballads here they promise.

Hits from Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding and Curtis Mayfield bring a hint of old-school retro to the set, medleys of Jamiroquai and Maroon 5 keep it up-to-date.

Keep an eye out for demos of original material later this year on their website at harry andrewbrown.wix.com/funkynuts

The Funky Nuts will be on stage at Zoo Bar on Friday, at 9.30pm.
