AN OUTDOOR performance of Shakespeare's The Tempest will be staged at the Prescot Woodland Theatre this June.

The tempestuous offering by MATE Productions will take place at the venue in the gardens of Prescot Parish Church before going on tour around parks and woodlands across the region.

This will culminate with a finale performance at The Dell at the RSC in Stratford-upon-Avon.

The show, which premieres in Prescot on Saturday, June 10 and Sunday 11 has been directed and produced by Gaynor La Rocca in partnership with the Shakespeare North Trust and in association with the RSC.

With live music from professional composers and musical directors Taran and Aimee Harris and the talented ensemble of actors, dancers, singers and musicians it promises to be a stunning hit and magical treat for the family.

A spokesperson for MATE Productions said: "The production process has involved countless hours of hard work by dedicated volunteers, actors, musicians, dancers and more, it has been a passion fuelled symphony of trials and triumphs."

MATE has also been getting primary and secondary schoolchildren in the tempestuous spirit with a Pop Up The Tempest theatre-in-education introducing them to the play. And there will be a schools matinee show taking place on July 14.

Performances of The Tempest take place at 2pm and 7pm on Saturday 10 and 2pm on Sunday 11. The show will also return to Prescot Woodland on Saturday, July 15 with shows at 2pm and 7pm.
