HAYDOCK Park's TENsational Saturday got off to a flying start at the weekend with live music and a 'Party in the Paddock'.

Followed by a eight races throughout the day BBC Radio 1 DJ and National Lottery host Scott Mills took to the decks aided by his sidekick Chris Stark, performing a live DJ set.

Jason Fildes, general manager of Haydock Park said: "UIt is always a clear sign that Spring is here when we host our first flat fixture at Haydock Park. The quality of racing for our first flat fixture was excellent and to have more than 100 horses, including one of the Queen's, Daphne, trained by William Haggas created a patriotic buzz on St George's Day at the racecourse. We were lucky with the weather as it was a sunny day and it all resulted in a massive crowd for our first TENsational Saturday.

"I can't wait for the next one now as it's clearly a formula for a day that works. Everyone seemed to enjoy the mix of racing and music and we're going to make one or two further tweaks.

"Local band The Sound went down a storm on the new stage opposite the Makerfield Lawn Bar and there was a great atmosphere for the DJ 'Party in the Paddock' with Scott Mills. He was a pleasure to have here at Haydock as he signed autographs, posed for masses of selfies and even presented the prize to the winners of the last race."

The Pertemps Swinton Hurdle on Saturday, May 7 is the next TENsational Saturday in the series and will see Johnny Vaughan performing live after racing for 90 minutes. The Swinton Hurdle is a unique fixture with a mixture of flat and jump racing - a total of seven races (three flat and four over jumps). The racecourse is offering a free behind the scenes tour before racing on all of the TENsational fixtures.

They will start an hour before the first race and free for all racegoers (meeting location: Kauto Star Statue, County Entrance).

Then the The Temple Stakes will be held on Saturday, May 21. This is one of the premium racing fixtures at Haydock Park. Joel Ross, Heart FM DJ will be heading up the 'Party in the Park'.

Another fantastic band will again be playing by the Makerfield Lawn before and during the racing to help create a festival like atmosphere.

Phil Williams, general manager of Jockey Club Catering at Haydock Park said: "We're excited about the launch of our new bars and facilities for 2016. We have created a true summer carnival, with live entertainment, new and refurbished bars, plus summer promotions.

"Makerfield Lawn has been revamped with a colossal summer pop up stretch tent serving cocktails, draught beer and Prosecco. At the next race meeting we will be launching a new Cooles Bar and Grill serving ribs, burgers and chicken with a modern touch plus our new trackside bar."
