AS Christmas and the holiday season is rapidly approaching, the local gig scene is a bit quieter than usual
but never fear dear readers there is still plenty to keep your eyes and ears happy this week.
Biggie of the week has to be at the Zoo Bar, Westfield Street on Friday night when Icicle Works man Ian McNabb will be gracing the stage acoustic and unplugged with a set featuring material from his solo albums. These include Merseybeast and his latest Kruggerands, which features a brilliant cover of Sly Fox's 80s hit, "Lets go all the way", as well as classic Icicle Works material.
Support on the night comes from St Helens' own Les Glover fresh from his recent collaborations with Henry Christian (of the Christians). It promises to be a great night and well worth the price of a ticket and it all kicks off about 8pm.
Across town at The Rendezvous Bar on Church Street a massive treat for fans of good old fashioned pedal to the metal R&B with local favourites The Extras.
It's been a while since they have appeared in St Helens and in fact they're only just getting back out there after wonderful bass player, Joan Bimson, has been recovering from serious illness. Again it's another gig well worth getting to as the band is one of the best R&B bands out on the North West live music circuit. It's lovely to see Joan back where she belongs belting the living daylights out of her Rickenbacker bass.
The show kicks off at about 10pm and no doubt will be a treat for fans of tough, no compromise, full-tilt R&B in the great atmosphere of The Rendezvous.
