AN up-and-coming band has been making a name for themselves in recent months.

The four-piece Pretty Pennys have enjoyed some high-profile performances this year and are excited at the prospect of some out of town gigs around the region this summer.

The band supported Stockport group The Blossoms at the recent Get It Loud in libraries event at Central Library. And this followed a successful first appearance at the Westfield Street festival, playing in the Sefton Arms on the big weekend.

The group, whose members all hail from the town, features Phil Harrison, Ant Critchley, Jamie Cook and drummer 'Buzz'.

"We started playing last April and practised for six or seven months," said Phil, 33, from Clinkham Wood.

"The library gig went really well and we got lots of feedback and promoters have been in touch. We managed to pick up a couple of gigs in Manchester in August and it's really hard to get a gig in Manchester."

And the group is also excited at playing a couple of shows in Liverpool in July.

"We are in Liverpool on the 24th at Jacaranda and on the 25th at Zanzibar. I would say our music is quite indie with some rock 'n' roll, it's a bit of everything really.

"And we all do our own songs as well and we never did any covers.

"We knew it was going to be a bit of a struggle at first but at the Westfield Street Festival everybody loved us there, it was great."
