ANOTHER Bank Holiday weekend is almost upon us and there is loads of live music out there to go and see

this coming weekend. More of that to come.

Last Friday, I headed into St Helens to support some local live music. Over at the Rendezvous the rock and blues trio, Papa Legba were sounding great. As always the brothers Crawford, Allan and Scott plus powerhouse drummist Graham Brighouse, put on a great show with Allan showing why he is rated by many local musicians as one of the finest guitarists in the local area.

And with Scott and Graham kicking it big time down in the "engine room" this trio made a huge sound for just three musicians.

Stand out tracks on the night, for me personally were, Black Sabbath's N.I.B. and the anthology version of The Beatles "While my guitar gently weeps" which I've always had a soft spot for ever since it appeared on the Beatles anthology and you never hear anyone do it with the alternative lyrics.

Over at the Sefton our correspondent 'The Groover' was out and about to see Zebra 3 who were appearing there.

According to my eyes and ears, the band were "ridiculously good" with grand master of a Bass player Dave showing great technique.

Mark was on guitar stunning mixing traditional rock styles with modern styles too and Dave standing for John on drums didn't miss a trick which is no mean feat as the band have their own arrangements and twists on the covers they play. Go and see them next time they are on.

As mentioned, it's a big weekend coming up and some highlights to look out for are The Red Lion music festival which runs from 12pm in the afternoon and runs all the way until midnight.

It promises to be a brilliant day with nine bands all playing for a great cause, The Willowbrook hospice. On Sunday Tank on Westfield street are holding a Metal Mayhem night with Animus, Reaper and Defied all appearing live in the Tank yard. The show starts at 5pm.
