Hi folks, Simon T, here once more. This town never ceases to amaze me with the amount of live music around every weekend, and last weekend was no different.

I had the pleasure of helping out at Shaun O' Neil's monthly jam night at the Rendezvous last Friday and it was great to see loads of different talent getting up onstage and showing what they can do. From bass players, T-fer Cash Williams doing an almost accapella version of The Who's "Boris the spider" to a new band from Liverpool, The Fitzroy Gibbons, playing their own material, any many more besides, a great evening of improvisation and the sheer enjoyment of making music to a lively audience came across in all the performers.

If you're around St Helens on the second Friday of every month this well established night is a must visit, make a note of it for 2015 in your diaries!

As I was tied up on other business last weekend one of our corespondents, "The Groover"

was out and about and here's a review of one of last weeks gigs.

GROOVER REPORTS ::::

Last Saturday night I ventured to the Phoenix pub in Canal Street a crackin' freindly venue who host band nights every Saturday. This week saw the return of the flexible faves, THE LAZZY BAND. Flexible in the sense that this great four-piece cater to everybody with songs by artists as diverse as Talking Heads, Motorhead, David Bowie, The Specials and the Who. They have a tremendous sound with a driving rhythm section, strong lead vocals from a charismatic frontman and a guitar player who has a very distinctive classy style of his own. A thoroughly enjoyable night!

I can highly recommend you catch these guys. As I said a lovely warm atmosphere, why not give the Phoenix a try on a Saturday a cracking night guaranteed. Bye for now, more from me "The Groover" coming next year...

Just one more thing before I go, A long standing tradition will be coming to an end on Tuesday, December 23. Greg Davies will be presenting his FINAL EVER Jam night at the Rendezvous. Greg has been responsible for bringing through lots of young, and not so young, talent over the years and his jam nights at various venues in St Helens will be fondly remembered by all who attended and showed their stuff on the many nights that Greg presented over the years. Greg has finally decided to “hang up his boots” and for one last time, this coming Tuesday, he will present what will no doubt become a legendary final evening of music, laughter and memories. So don’t miss this one folks as it’s the last chance you’ll get to see this happen.

That's all from me until next week. Remember folks if you'd like a mention on the gig guide, send me an email at simon.trubshaw2014@gmail.com til next week keep it “Live in Glasstown”.
