THE inimitable Keston Cobblers’ Club will perform at the Citadel to help launch an exciting new project at the venue.

This unmistakable folk band have been thrilling their growing legion of fans and the chance to catch them live is one you can’t fail to miss.

Their upcoming performance at the Citadel will mark the first concert in the new Smaller Rooms Touring project, supported by The Citadel and its partner venues in Bury, Morecambe, Halifax and Wakefield.

Over three years, at least 12 new up and coming acts will perform a mini tour across the five venues.

When this five-piece take to the stage you might find Julia dressed in a flamboyant tutu with brother Matthew sporting a shepherd’s tunic and headband, whilst Bethan suddenly picks up an enormous tuba and anyone unfamiliar with the band scratches their head, perplexed at how such a delicate frame could possibly have chosen the tuba as her main instrument.

Together with Tom and Harry, the band casually swap instruments between them in a way that would make Arcade Fire blush, and trumpets, accordions, harmonicas and guitars all get passed around as easily as a hat being passed for a whip-round.

None of this is to say that their music is frivolous and the BBC’s Steve Lamacq was the first to notice the band, declaring them ‘one of the best new discoveries I’ve made’. Terrestrial TV programmes have used the Cobbler’s music, Burberry have done the same with their commercials and the band provided all the music for stand-up Ross Noble’s ‘Sit Down Tour’ film.

Meanwhile, the band have been busy playing shows of their own to packed venues, as well as playing the major festivals including Glastonbury, Bestival, Green Man and the Cambridge Folk Festival.

Keston Cobblers’ Club are destined for big things, so don’t miss this great opportunity to see them at an intimate venue whilst they are still largely undiscovered.

The show hits the stage on Thursday, October 16. Tickets are £10 per adult and £8 a concession and available at 01744 735436 or visit www.citadel.org.uk. Doors are open from 7.30pm.
