Inquest opened into racecourse tragedy

AN inquest has been opened today (Friday) into the death of a man who was crushed by a runaway racehorse at Haydock Park.
Malcolm Sibbery (63) died on Saturday, May 3 in the intensive care unit at Fazakerley Hospital.
The part-time racecourse staff member was injured after the David Nicholls trained horse Pure Imagination broke free and smashed through a rail before an evening meeting on Saturday, April 26.
The inquest into his death was briefly opened and adjourned today. Environmental health oficers are continuing an inquiry into the tragedy.
Earlier this week Dickon White, managing director of Haydock Park, said: "We are all shocked and saddened at the news. Malcolm was a valuable and popular member of the Haydock Park team and will be greatly missed.
"Our heartfelt thoughts are with his family at this most difficult time."
