Meet a spirited set of ghosthunters...
BELIEVE in spooks, spectres or phantoms? Well one dedicated squad of ghostbusters is aiming to open people's minds into the possibility that there may be something more to that creak on the stair when everyone's tucked up in bed.
St Helens branch of the Pathfinder Paranormal Investigators established in February 2007, scour spooky sites across the country searching for paranormal activity.
Jeanette Foster from Ravenhead founded the group with her son Steve and are both keen to promote interest in the supernatural throughout the town. Named Ghost SHIP (St Helens Investigating Paranormal), the team meets at the Rendezvous Bar on Church Street, St Helens on the second Thursday of every month.
Pathfinder and their St Helens contingent are gaining a growing reputation for meticulous investigations and attention to detail.
Jeanette explained that they do not claim to be a team of scientists, but their experiments are conducted in a scientific manner and they keep an open mind to any findings.
They have visited a spooky lighthouse, investigated the sighting of a ghostly French woman who spooking guests at a 16th century manor house and tackled spirits at an old pub in Manchester. This year alone they have been to Belgrave Hall in Leicestershire, Beaumaris Gaol in Anglesey and will later visit Woodchester Mansion in Gloucestershire and The Galleries of Justice in Nottingham.
In St Helens they have captured pictures of strange orbs at TS Scimitar on Mill Street and at the Theatre Royal, where they raised £1361 at a sponsored spook in aid of Cystic Fibrosis. They have also carried out a double seance at Larkins restaurant on North Road.
They have also teamed up with local ghosthunter Arthur Adamson to investigate sightings of the Grey Lady in Taylor Park. Jeanette explained: "Our group did a small and very quick ghost walk there on a very cold and blustery night last December. The walk was very active that night and a lot of energy was detected, but unfortunately not the Grey Lady on this occasion. We went back to the park a few nights ladty searching for the White Lady and again a lot of energy was picked up, but as before the weather was very bad, but we will be going back in the near future."
As their reputation grows, they are being invited to live shows and radio broadcasts up and down the British Isles.
And in true Ghostbusters style, they are also offering their services. She explained: "The group have helped people who have had problems of the paranormal type."
Anyone interested in joining can turn up at their monthly meetings at the Rendezvous. Annual subscription to the group is £10.
