New home numbers set for boost
MORE new homes are set to be built across the St Helens borough after the local authority relaxed planning restrictions.
St Helens Council says it has changed policy to comply with new regional strategies.
In 2005 the council restricted the number of new homes being built each year to manage land release for housing in line with Regional Planning Guidance for the North West.
According to the local authority, at the time the annual housing allowance of 400 dwellings per year was being significantly exceeded and a policy was introduced to constrain the number of houses being granted planning permission.
A St Helens Council statement read: "Now, nationally, the Government is committed to increasing housing numbers and the new Draft Regional Spatial Strategy for the North West sets out a target of 570 dwellings a year.
"In order to achieve this, the housing restraint policy has been lifted."

Why not go the whole hog build whatevr, whereever you like. It matters not a jot that this town is a mix match of dreadful looking houses and apartments, that stand empty for ages, or are back on the market in a metter of months. Soon there wont be a blade of grass left without a boxy looking house on it. There is also a Government agenda for walking not driving, but these estates don't even have footpaths. Go on I say - squash them all on, because the more properties the more Council Tax

i hope these new homes are not let by under-one-roof . trying to get re-housed off them is like trying to get blood out of a stone ,mind you the 18/19 yr olds dont seem to have a problem getting re-housed off em
