A MAN has been arrested in connection with the theft from Ormskirk of a dog that was later found dead in St Helens.
Lancashire Police questioned the man, who is from Carr Mill, last Saturday following a tip-off from a member of the public in St Helens.
The arrest follows a media appeal in which police asked for help in tracing a suspect dubbed by some as the 'Ormskirk Napper'.
The investigation centres on the theft of a white cross border collie that was taken from outside Boots, Ormskirk, on the morning of Friday, January 25, and was later found dead two days later beside a St Helens road.
The dog, called Ellie, had been hit by a car.
Police are also investigating another theft of a dog, that also went missing from Ormskirk but was later found in St Helens. Tilly, a black bearded cross collie, was tied up outside the town's Morrisons on Tuesday, January 22 when a thief took her.
Tilly was found by a local couple, who took her in. She was later reunited with her owner after the couple read an appeal in the Star.
