A correspondent from Parr, who wishes to remain anonymous, writes; “ I wonder if any of your readers could furnish me with some details, about a couple of local glass bottles I recently unearthed.

Both bottles are from local companies, now long gone.

One is a clear glass mineral bottle and has J Twist & Sons, St Helens on it, and the 4 digit telephone code, 2708 on it.

A friend told me Twists was a local pop company from Thatto Heath; anyone know what happened to the firm?

The 2nd bottle is of brown glass, like a beer bottle, and has the name Hayes and Conning Ltd, Rainhill.

I have drawn a total blank here. Anyone know owt about this firm? I suspect the bottles are about 40 odd years old. Anyone able to add any history to them about the companies named?”
