IAN Griffiths dropped me a note about a few steam trains coming to our area which he says may be of interest to some readers.

On Saturday, March 26 the Coronation Class 'Duchess of Sutherland' is due to arrive at Liverpool from Glasgow at 3.30pm and departs back at 5pm. It should be passing through St Helens Central about 20 minutes before and after these times. The return will be diesel hauled.

On Saturday, May 15, the Coast to Coast Express departs Liverpool for Scarborough at 6.35am and arrives back at 9.15pm. This should be passing through St Helens Junction and Rainhill stations about 20 minutes before and after these times.

Then on Sunday, July 24, the North Wales Coast Express departs Liverpool from Holyhead at 10.25am and arrives back at 9.30pm. This should be steaming through the Junction and Rainhill again around 20 minutes before and after these times.

Ian said: "I hope this is useful." It is and I only have to wheelchair stroll uphill to New Street railway Bridge (a listed building) to see those heading through the Junction.
