CHRISTINE Lavin hopes these two wonderful photos stir the memories among some Coffey Time readers.
She says: "I hope you will find the attached pictures of interest and wouldn't it be great if any relatives come forward with their own stories about any of the people in the photos. Mrs Molly Lavin was my grandmother and ran a grocers shop on Hunter Street. The shop had formerly belonged to her mother Caroline Birch. In the photograph grandma was given the honour of presenting the May Queen with her crown. We are not sure of the year but note the 'God Save the King' banner in the background.
"Grandma was born in 1888 and was a very popular local by all accounts. On the club photo of Peasley Cross rugby club, Molly's husband, my granddad William Lavin, is the gentleman kneeling on the front right with the flat cap and holding what looks like a piece of paper. Granddad was born in 1896 and played for Saints after the First World War. He went through all this conflict as a gunner in the Royal Artillery from signing up in 1914 to his demob in 1919.
"Many thanks for the column Chris, I always enjoy reading it."
