STEPHEN Copple sent me these wonderful posters of this brewery but is looking for more information. If anyone can help I will send him the details.

He wrote: "There are records of Copples, with variations of the spelling, living in the Widnes area in 1654. When the national census was help in 1841, Edward, his wife Susanna and their son John, aged 25, had settled in the Eccleston Park area.

"By the time of the next census they had been joined by John's brother William and they were master watch and watch movement makers owning a business that employed around 20 men. The earliest date for the start of the brewery is an advert in an 1869 local newspaper which showed that Copple's sparkling ales and prime porters were available in the Telegraph vaults in Salisbury Street. By the time of the 1871 census John was in the brewing business."
