I NOTICED on St Helens Back in the Day on Facebook there was a request for photos of Cabbage Hall Farm in Hard Lane before the housing estate was built.

I don't have any but I checked the St Helens Local History and Archives website and they do along with some history about its immediate area.

Dorothy Fairhurst, who has a council allotment on the Cabbage Hall site behind the Windle pub, wondered if anyone can solve a historic point. It involves a large expanse of brick flooring.

She explained: "Two experienced diggers have been working the land for a few months. It's amazing what they have unearthed with a trowel and a small spade.

"The brickwork has been dated from the late 1700s to the mid 1800s and it was discovered that the land was owned by brothers named Gerard, hence the Gerards Bridge area. It's also common knowledge that a farm called The Cabbage Hall was on the land in the early 1900s. Any information from before the 1900s would be appreciated."
