IN the early 1970s without the benefit of catch-up TV I tried to see as many episodes as MASH as possible although I doubt I managed all 256 episodes.

Featuring in the programme was a helicopter the United States Army needed which could evacuate the injured from the front line which was needed during the Korean War for the transportation of mobile MASH units to hospitals.

Regular contributor to this column Ian Griffiths tell me: "The 'Huey' is scheduled to appear at Newton Show next month. They were a regular visitor to Burtonwood in the early 80s and 90s. I believe the last 'Huey' to use RAF Burtonwood was back in 1993. I may be able to find a more accurate date. Watch this space.

"I also seeing a number of these 'Huey's' flying from Burtonwood to Speke on a regular basis using the call sign Lord 21 or similar. I seem to remember one time when around five flew across in formation. The sound of the rotors became very familiar."

I learned more about these helicopters by visiting their website huey.co.uk where they posted: "We have been invited to take both helicopters to Newton-le-Willows Town Show. This annual show will include a fair, a trial bike display, classic cars, steam engines, choirs and bands, craft and baking tents and even tug-o-war.

"Our machines will be on static display all day from 11am so please come along and meet the crew and take the opportunity to take some photos. We look forward to seeing you there."

The Newton Town Show will take place at Mesnes Park on Saturday August 1.
