THERE’S a terrific exhibition about the history of Cowley school at the World of Glass and in keeping with that theme Roger Kilshaw has e-mailed about a picture we published a while back.

It shows Cowley staff from the girls school in 1951 and Roger has picked out a few teachers to name.

He wrote: “The teacher in the middle row, second from right is Barbara Webster, but when this photograph was taken she would be Miss Barbara Harrison.

“She lived in Millbrook Lane, and her parents May and Edgar were very friendly with my parents.

“I spent many happy hours at their home and in their garden as aWhen a picture paints a thousand words young boy, and even remember ‘pinching’ chips that Barbara and Harry came home with when they were courting!

“After marrying they went out to Brazil for several years where Harry was working on civil engineering projects during the construction of Brasilia as the new capital city.

“The last I heard of them they had retired to the Lake District.

“Another Coffey Time which has revived very happy remembrances for me, keep them coming please. By the way I did not know that there were male teachers employed at Grammar Schools for girls.”
