TWO further open days will be held to find relatives of former St Helens Recs rugby players.

There has been a tremendous response to the events held so far, which see relatives of players from Recs’ professional era from 1919 to 1939 presented with a special certificate featuring the player’s unique number and playing record by Saints historian Alex Service.

There will also be a chance for relatives to check biographical information ahead of the forthcoming book They Bled Red, Amber and Black to be published in the new year.

The last two open days will be held from 10am to 7pm on Monday, November 24, and Wednesday, November 26, at the Local History Library in the Central Library building at Victoria Square.

The certificates, meanwhile, are on good quality card and are based on the old team sheets from the 1920s. An exemplar certificate for Johnny Greenall, the Recs’ greatest player, details the scrum half’s record of 251 appearances, 64 tries and ten goals.

It shows he made a debut against Swinton on 23 August 1919 before a final appearance at Barrow on 29 September 1928 Honours include being a Lancashire Cup final winner in 1923-24 and Lancashire League winner 1926-27.
