WE’VE been sent a puzzler about a rugby medal won in the 1920s.

Richard McCauley, Thatto Heath ward councillor and Thatto Heath ARLFC committee member, has written to Coffey Time seeking answers.

“None of us on the committee at Thatto Heath Crusaders have a clue as to the medal's origins, or in fact of the competition it was won in,” says Richard. “Maybe your readers can do better.

The current Thatto Heath club was formed in 1981 but archives suggest a community side was collecting trophies as far back as the 20s. Keith Davies wrote to Richard saying: “Way back in 1920 this medal was won at Knowsley Road. Newspaper records in the library show Thatto Heath beat Glovers wire ropes in the final."
