REGULAR contributor Kevin Finney shares his memories stirred by my piece about the Moss Bank railway crossing.
He recalls: “We did quite a bit of trekking around the area and your mention of Muncaster Hall, reminds me of the few times we stayed in tents on the farm. Another of our stop off points was at the bottom of Crank Hill, just past Fairfield.
"There was a small field on the left and a wooden hut. It’s still there used by the YMCA scout group still, I believe? Unfortunately it meant we had to work out when to cross lower down near the now extinct railway level crossing.
"The houses are still there nearby. I don’t know the history of these cottages, whether they were related to the crossing or if there had been a halt there many years ago?”
Has anyone got any answers?
