Alan Atkins was born in Garswood in 1937 and remembers the cottages. They were on Garswood Road.
This is a view of the rear. The front looked very similar.
It actually reminded the locals of something from a Hitchcock film and the cottages earned the nickname of the ‘Ghost Houses’, although there was never a ghost story to go with it.
Before Alan’s time there was a colliery at the rear and a nearby property was the lamp house.
I confess I don’t know Garswood at all, and Alan has kindly volunteered to give me a tour of the area in the summer!
