Gary Carr is wondering if the places still exist in the St Helens area where his grandparents lived.

The Widnes man said: “My great grandparents lived in Sutton when they got married. They lived in Fleet Lane, but before that lived in Moss Nook and Taylor’s Row. They moved to Widnes later, where they died. They and their family were from Ireland. They got wed in Sutton at St Anne’s Church.

“My great grandparents’ names were Henry Carr and Ann Quinn. They married in 1878, then lived in Fleet Lane. Henry’s father’s name was Thomas.”

Steve Wainwright, of the Sutton Beauty and Heritage website, tells me: “Taylor’s Row no longer exists but was in East Sutton near Frederick Street and Hoghton Road. It’s not to be confused with Taylor Street in Sutton. Henry Carr got wed at St Anne's Church on July 28, 1878.

“The church records say that he was then living in Moss Nook, Sutton and was the son of Thomas and Sara Carr. His bride, Anna, was the daughter of Michael and Margarita Quinn. The witnesses were John Quinn of Sutton and Anna Burke from Peasley Cross.”
