Geoff Simm wrote to me after seeing the picture of the overhead coal buckets in the February 13 edition of CoffeyTime.

“Hi Chris, Further to the info you've already got on the photo. The aerial ropeway in your picture ran between Wood Pit and Lyme Pit and it carried the refuse or dirt leftovers from Lyme Pit washery. Wood Pit had no washery and no pit baths either.

"You had to go home in your ‘black’ or walk to the baths at Old Boston. The coal from Wood Pit was taken along an endless rope tramway that ran parallel to the aerial ropeway to Lyme Pit washery.

"When Lyme Pit closed they used the washery for a while and then installed a bunker at Wood Pit to forward the coal by lorries to Parkside Colliery for washing. All the best.”
